Brown House is a New York based jazz quartet consisting of an array of international musicians including South African vocalist and kalimba player Vuyo Sotashe, Ukrainian pianist and keyboard player Fima Chupakhin, and US based drummer Theo Lebeaux and bassist Vince Dupont.
Due to such multicultural mix Brown House has a very distinguished sound pallet. It can be described as a mix of Slavic melodicism, American jazz tradition and African rhythmic culture. The quartet is ever mindful of their own respect for jazz tradition while also embracing elements of other genres including soul, folk, hip-hop, contemporary improvisation, Xhosa rhythms (South African), and classical music.
With each member bringing much of their own individual experience, the newly formed quartet has rapidly made a noteworthy impact on the City jazz community. Founded in September 2013, Brown House has already received a great deal of attention from New York’s seasoned jazz listeners. With several sold out concerts and a growing number of devoted listeners, the quartet has proven that it is a great new contribution to the New York City’s prolific jazz scene.
